In order to avoid transmission of disease, use masks appropriately

Wearing a mask is considered to protect against the risk of contracting the disease. This can also work the other way around, preventing disease transmission. However, mask protection can only be maximized if the mask is used properly. Previously, many doubted the effectiveness of masks to prevent transmission of the virus. However, research confirms that if the right mask is used properly, it is effective in preventing the spread of viral infections. Research shows, family members who wear masks when someone has the flu, have a lower risk of contracting than those who do not wear masks.

Recognizing Types of Masks

Generally there are 2 main types of health masks that can be chosen as needed. Come, look at the advantages and disadvantages:
  • Surgical mask

  • Surgical masks are masks that are commonly used by medical workers such as doctors when handling patients. This mask is usually thin, green or blue. This mask can prevent droplets of body fluids such as sweat, snot, saliva, and phlegm from sterile areas when surgery is performed. Because the price is affordable and easy to get anywhere, this type of mask is often used to reduce exposure to pollution, dirt, and dust inhaled while driving. It is also often used as a barrier, so that saliva or phlegm is not scattered through coughing or sneezing. However, the drawback of this type of mask is that it does not protect against germs or viruses from inhaled air, and can only be used for disposables. This mask must also be removed if it is damp or wet because it is no longer effective.
  • N95 breathing mask

  • The name N95 is taken from the fact that this mask can filter out 95% of large and small airborne particles. This mask is also commonly used to protect themselves from toxic materials or when painting. To provide maximum protection, this mask must be installed properly so that there are no gaps for the virus from the air. The advantages of this type of mask can protect users from small particles in the air that may contain germs or viruses that cause respiratory tract infections. This mask can also be used repeatedly, although the N95 mask filter needs to be replaced within a certain period of time. However, N95 masks are more expensive than surgical masks.

Tips for Getting Mask Protection with the maximum

Although it does not fully guarantee you avoid disease, but at least the use of this mask can provide additional protection to reduce the risk of disease transmission. However, you need to remember that masks will not provide protection if not worn properly. Let's try, see the right way to wear a mask:
  • Before touching the mask, wash your hands with soap and water or antiseptic hand sanitizer.
  • Open the mask from the package. Make sure there are no holes or tears on each side of the mask. The colored surface of the mask usually indicates the front of the mask, while the white part is attached to the face.
  • Make sure the hook is tight and covers the nose, mouth and chin.
  • Wear a mask about 2 meters away before approaching a person who is sick.
  • Try not to hold the mask again until you take it off.
